The official launch of the NSW Premier League and the pre-season competition took place on Wednesday 2nd March at the purpose-built home of Netball NSW – Netball Central.
The Central Coast Heart U20s team had an impressive start to their pre-season campaign in a tight match again Penrith Panthers. U20s Goal Shooter Bronte Doorn performed strongly with Laura Rodger impressive in the Goal Keeper position. Coach Nerida Stewart used the opening pre-season match to test combinations with positive outcomes. The Heart lead throughout the match but lost in a close decider 36–40.
The Central Coast Heart Opens team had a tough start to the pre-season, coming up against strong opponents in UTS St George Sparks. The Sparks lead early with outstanding defence, a seamless mid-court and sharp shooting.
Papua New Guinea national Jacklyn Lahari was a stand out for The Heart in Wing Attack, whilst mid-court player and Co-Vice Captain Alicia Walsh was tireless in Wing Defence.
The Opens rallied as the match progressed and displayed wonderful potential, but could not claw their way back from the substantial deficit. Head Coach Amber Cross said "the pre-season is our opportunity to see what's working and identify areas that need improvement. The girls worked hard and we'll continue to improve as the pre-season progresses."
The competition is held each Wednesday night at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park with the U20s matches at 7pm, followed by the Opens at 8:40pm.
